The Cork Harvesters

The Cork Harvesters - 2018 - 2022 - Photography, Video & Sound

Cork trees are a natural tree of of the Mediterranean basin and all around this region every summer thousands of men work in the Quercus Suber forests. Sometimes these men are working only an hour away from major European cities, however this work, is quite unknown or mis-understood by the general public.

They are the FIRST in a long line of men and women who work with this natural raw material. This projects intends to draw attention to these workers to explain the benefits of cork, cork harvesting, and the importance of recuperating this work to facilitate sustainable forest management.

The majority of this project was done in the northern region of Catalonia in the provinces of Girona and Barcelona during the cork harvest of 2018 and continued during the harvest seasons of 2019, 2020 and 2021.

A major exhibition was produced for the Cork Museum of Catalonia and exhibited between May and July 2021. It is now a travelling exhibition and available to travel to other venues upon request
